Frank Horry - Flight Mechanic who progressed to Air Gunner then Bomber, Transport and Maritime Pilot

Frank Horry joined the RAF in 1935 as a Flight Mechanic.  By late 1939, he was also flying as an Air Gunner on Wellingtons with 9 Sqn, based at RAF Honington.  Awarded the DFM for his actions during the battle of Heligoland Bight on 19 December 1939, by August 1941 he was a trainee pilot at No 9 Elementary Flying Training School at RAF Ansty, where he flew R5172 on 5 occasions.

Commissioned in June 1942, Horry completed a tour of operations flying Wellingtons in the Western Desert with 162 and 40 Sqns, before returning to the UK to fly as an instructor.  Post War, he converted to the Liberator and flew the Avro York with 99 Sqn, including many missions during the Berlin Airlift.  By 1952, he was flying the Shackleton Maritime Patrol Aeroplane with 224 Sqn.  Retiring from the RAF during 1954, Horry pursued a creeer in civil aviation, flying the Bristol Freighter, Handley Page Hermes and Lockheed Constellation; he died in 1982.
